The product of an intense love affair with the Casio CZ-5000 synthesiser, the eCZtasy EP sees the cult producer, DJ, remixer, NTS resident and label head Ruf Dug release on his own label for the first time in 4 years. 2019 was the year that Manchester’s Simon Hindle released EPs on Futureboogie and Rhythm Section, tackled FACT’s Against The Clock and embarked on a tour that took in Pikes, Gottwood, Love International, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Moscow and more. He kicks off 2020 with the first release on a reinvigorated Ruf Kutz label.

Ruf Dug says “After hearing the Satoshi & Makoto album and checking their youtubes I just HAD to own a CZ-5000… it wasn’t long till I managed to snare one and got lost in its tones… this record contains some of the highlights of that whirlwind romance.”

The A side sees Ruffy in full-on peaking rave mode as opener INWARD CONVERSION PROCESS shows off the classy, glassy tones of the CZ-5000 from the outset as 11th chords stack up on one another to create a euphoric future anthem that takes in the best bits of prog, trance, dream house - with the occasional zouky drum pattern to remind you that the tropical cyberpunk is at the console.

There’s no time to rest up as we cascade immediately into WET PLAY BANGER - surely Ruf Dug’s trackiest release ever, almost a DJ tool more than a tune. The CZ’s sequencer comes into play here as pattern after pattern collide, co-mingle and then disperse with the effect of boosting dopamine & serotonin levels in all who experience. Named for the infamous Manchester club night which Ruffy & pals started, this one has been stress-tested on the universe’s finest dance floor and emerged, wide-eyed and mindless, to be captured here on wax for you…

The B side welcomes a change of pace. Opener SHOPPIN has the CZ-5000 re-purposed as Balearic conspirator, adding an ibicenco skank & sandy pans to a rugged DMX beat that suggests Laid Back making a lost dub for Saada Bonaire. The B2, FRUITY DANCE, sprays a cubensis mist over the Casio and dials the exotica setting up to infinity as woozy bells and live drum samples get all tapey and loose to close out a very welcome return to Ruf Kutz for its proprietor
